How to draw shimmering lights on water
During my vacation in Thailand at the end of last year, I stayed in a cabin at the beach for part of the vacation. The beach we were at was very quiet, but I was happy to have a few “live models” every now and then to draw and add to my pages.
Did you know that you can use non-soluble wax crayons for glistening water? Apply a bit of texture with crayon first, and then add watercolor on top.
The wax will resist the watercolor and it’ll create a wonderful effect of highlights.
Materials used in this drawing:
-Etchr Sketchbook (Hot Press 100% cotton), size B5
-Pentel pocket brush pen (with the waterproof ink cartridge that comes with it)
-Caran d’Ache Neocolor 1 wax crayons
-Daniel Smith watercolors
-Pentel Aquash waterbrush
REMINDER:
This Thursday, I am teaching my monthly Mini-Workshop on Zoom. Come draw with me!
I will prepare instruction and an assignment for us to work on, during the 90-minute-session. By the end of the session, there will be time for "show & tell", during which everyone who wants to, can share their drawings so we can learn from each other. You can learn a lot by looking at each other's art. No pressure! It's totally OK if you want to keep your art to yourself.
No requirements, except for an internet connection and your favorite art tools.
Day: Thursday February 15 2024
