Hi there, I’m Koosje!

pronounced "Kōsha”

I’m an artist and creative entrepreneur living in the Netherlands. I love drawing and I do it every day. On this website, I hope to inspire you to develop a drawing habit too, because it can make you feel good.

How about a quick update about my book progress?

How about a quick update about my book progress?

I am in the process of writing and publishing a book about drawing: "Life is Better When You Draw (it)".

The core message of the book is how much pure joy drawing brings me, and that you can incorporate that joy into your daily life too.

I have send book proposal to several publishing companies. Unfortunately, they rejected the project. It comes down to this: they weren’t confident that the book is marketable and profitable.

Rejections are part of the process too. I have learned that you become a real author once you have gotten your first book proposal rejection.

Profitable or not, I don’t care. I feel it from the tip of my toes to the crown of my head, that this book needs to be made. Even if it was just for me.
I needed to write it, so I gently started that writing process, I think it was by the end of 2020. Slowly but steadily, what started as a vague idea, grew into a big project.
I want to share my sketchbook experiences and creative learnings with my audience, and what better way to do this in a wonderful book full of inspiration that celebrates creativity?

After a lot of research and conversations, with published authors as well as self-publishing authors, I decided to take the self-publishing route. I have several reasons for that. The most important one: having control over the process and timing.
Self-publishing means taking the full project in my own hands, and doing all the work involved. And trust me; that is a lot more work than you might think in the first place. I won’t bore you with the details.
It’s been very exciting and it still is.

Currently, I am working with a designer, Tosca, who works her magic to translate the vision I have in my head about this book, into a real book full of images from my archives. Those images are combined with stories from my own creative journey alongside tips and advice.
My friend Suzan, who is a writer, has been helping editing my initial manuscript into a solid and good read.

Making a book is a team effort and I am glad I am surrounded by amazing people who are helping me, and that I have the financial resources to invest a little money for hiring professionals to do what I can’t. I am learning so much along the way too!

I can't wait for the book to be ready for your eyes. We're getting closer!
Once it’s ready, the book will be available on amazon and many other platforms, so it can be ordered and delivered anywhere in the world.
If you're interested in the book progress, sign up for my email list if you haven’t already, so I can send you updates when I have news, and you’ll be the first to know when it’s available to buy.
