Hi there, I’m Koosje!

pronounced "Kōsha”

I’m an artist and creative entrepreneur living in the Netherlands. I love drawing and I do it every day. On this website, I hope to inspire you to develop a drawing practice too, because it can make you feel good.

Everything is interesting when you draw it

In a rut?

Do you ever find yourself staring at your sketchbook, pen in hand, but totally stumped on what to draw?

It's a common artist's block. In my book, "Life Is Better When You Draw It," I dive into this topic. My motto? "Everything is interesting when you draw it."

Seriously, what you draw isn't as crucial as just getting started and enjoying the process. Our brains sometimes overthink, convincing us that every sketch needs to be profound or carry a profound message. But let's ditch that pressure. Just dive in before those pesky expectations creep in.

Anything goes

Whether you're sketching a cup on your table or your cat lounging in the sun, each stroke tells a bit of your story, in your unique style. And hey, not every drawing will be a masterpiece, but they all contribute to your artistic journey.

By not overthinking, you'll snag more time for drawing—and trust me, that's where the real joy lies. It's a chance to zone out, learn, and let your creativity flow. Remember, it's just paper and pen—making art should be a blast!

I’ll prove my point by sharing a drawing that I don’t particularly love. The result is “meh”, in my eyes, but the activity of drawing myself calm after a busy day, and experimenting with materials, was everything!

Now, if you're itching for some ideas to kickstart your doodling, I've got you covered with 25 suggestions:

  1. Sketch yourself in the mirror.

  2. Try drawing your hand without lifting your pen.

  3. Capture the essence of a car or bike.

  4. Draw your pet—or any animal that catches your eye.

  5. Take your sketchbook for a stroll around your neighborhood.

  6. Practice drawing people in various poses.

  7. Give your feet some artistic attention.

  8. Dedicate a page to studying facial features.

  9. Draw and describe your outfit of the day.

  10. Get lost in the details of trees and foliage.

  11. Copy a piece of art from an artist you admire.

  12. Draw something you use daily.

  13. Give a simple chair some artistic flair.

  14. Capture the beauty of flowers.

  15. Draw architectural details, buildings or a street scene (on location or from a photo)

  16. Recreate a scene from your latest vacation photos.

  17. Raid your kitchen drawer for interesting objects to draw.

  18. Empty out your bag and sketch its contents.

  19. Illustrate your shoe collection or favorite accessories.

  20. Draw your toiletries or bathroom essentials.

  21. Take inspiration from old family photos.

  22. Travel virtually with Google Street View and draw the place you “visit”.

  23. Sketch scenes from your favorite TV shows or movies.

  24. Document your meals or illustrate a recipe.

  25. Set up a sketching date with a friend, online or in person.

I hope these ideas help you break through that creative block and just draw.
