Urban Sketching on a Coffee Date - Tips & Inspiration

Urban Sketching on a Coffee Date - Tips & Inspiration

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!

Urban sketching is a wonderful way to turn everyday moments into art. Cafes, with their cozy vibes and lively details, are the perfect spot to start. Whether you're sketching coffee cups, interiors, or people, this creative practice helps you capture the charm of the moment.

Essentials for Cafe Sketching:

  • A sketchbook

  • A pen, and something to add color

How to Sketch in a Cafe:

  1. Start simple: coffee cups or corners.

  2. Add light washes of watercolor for a base.

  3. Outline key details with pen—suggest, don’t over-detail.

  4. Add shading and pops of color to bring it to life.

Overcoming Public Sketching Fear:

Feeling nervous? Start in quiet spots or go draw with a friend.
You’ll see that if people notice you drawing, people are curious and kind, and public sketching often leads to fun conversations!

Sketching in cafes is a mindful way to slow down and see the world differently.

Ready to try? Grab your sketchbook and treat yourself to a coffee date sketch session!
