Layout And Composition In Your Sketchbook

Layout And Composition In Your Sketchbook

Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!

Some of you have posted questions about layout and composition, so today I want to talk about that. For this, I needed to do some research online, to understand what the elements of composition are, and if there is any difference between the terms layout and composition. I copied and pasted from all kinds of resources, to Frankenstein together today’s presentation, which also includes examples from my sketchbook archive.

I created a checklist which includes the elements of composition. I am using it today to look at a selection of drawings, and you can use the list to take a closer look at your own sketchbook pages and to analyse them.

Below is the checklist for you.
Use the checklist is not for self-critique, but to create a certain awareness about the decisions you make during the process of drawing.
Of course there are no rules when it comes to making art! The most important thing is that you have fun during the process.
