Drawing Snippets on-the-go
Welcome to Draw Tip Tuesday!
Join me on a day of sketching snippets in my sketchbook, as I navigate through the day with my sketchbook in hand.
From waiting rooms to train rides, I capture snippets of my day using minimal materials. Despite the wobbly train, windy spots, and changing scenes, I embrace the imperfections, am being in the moment, and I find joy (so much joy!) in the process.
I am traveling today to escort a friend to the hospital for some tests and I draw my surroundings while I wait there – a wheelchair, a coffee machine, and the constant movement of people. Text snippets add context to my drawings, enriching the narrative of the day.
On the way home, I seize moments to capture the market in five minutes, and also on the train back. People absorbed by the world of their smartphones or laptops become subjects for my sketches. Each fragment adds more to the story of my day on this page.
Back home with a cup of coffee, I complete my mapping out the full day in my sketchbook.
Materials I used:
Hahnemühle Nostalgie Sketchbook, size A4
Pentel Pocket Brushpen
White crayon (Caran d'Ache Neocolor I)
Let's embrace the wonky, but also the beauty of the mundane and the unexpected, and let's fill our pages with snippets of life.
Your assignment for this week:
Try it yourself. Map out your day or your week, by drawing snippet next to snippet on your page. Keep going and you'll fill the whole page. Include text and arrows to describe all the different elements. Take your time – no pressure, just enjoy the process.
