Drawing The Mundane

Drawing The Mundane

In my sketchbook, I capture the world around me. Even though I travel a lot for work, the subjects of my day-to-day drawings aren’t often spectacular. My feet , my husband (or his feet), the living room... I have fun drawing whatever.

Drawing the mundane might seem insignificant. But instead of trying to find a “meaningful” subject, spend your time drawing the things around you. By drawing these things, you are telling part of your very unique story. AND you’re doing something that makes you happy. That’s not insignificant at all!

Your inner critic might say that drawing daily things is unimportant or a waste of time, that you should focus on more "serious" pursuits, or that your drawings aren't good enough.
Be brave! Challenge these thoughts and remember that creativity has value in its own right, no matter what skill level or subject.

Everything is interesting when you draw it.

And by the way, it immediately becomes meaningful BECAUSE you’re drawing it.
And here’s a little secret: if you draw your subject more than one time, and create repetition on your page, you give yourself a fun and simple challenge. Drawing something v over and over again is a great way to practice, and your page is filled in a fun illustrative way.
