Drawing in Transit
Where to draw
Oftentimes as an artist, you might find yourself not just what to draw (see my article on this from last week), but also when or where to draw.
Maybe you would like to draw in your sketchbook more often, but you are so busy that you don’t quite know how to implement the practice in your daily life.
Public transportation
Maybe you spend time commuting by train or bus? Public transportation is a wonderful opportunity to spend some time drawing! Instead of catching up on the news, doom scrolling on social media or answering emails, this is a wonderful moment to be present.
You can listen to music or a podcast, or the chatting around you… or maybe the tap-tap-tapping of keyboards.
I like how these two people were both folded up in them own ways into their focus and digital world. They had no idea they were modeling as well as being productive on-the-go:
Materials used:
-Hand made sketchbook by John Payne. Size: 8.5’x5.7’ / 21,7 cm x14 cm
-Sailor fude fountain pen with 55degree calligraphy nib, filled with Platinum Carbon Black ink
-Daniel Smith watercolors
-Pentel Aquash waterbrush
-30 minutes
On the way back, I did not draw. I spent time to draft part of my monthly newsletter on my phone - I probably looked something like these two people, bent over and concentrated on / glued to the screen.
