You need a Break

Breathe. Relax your shoulders. Sit down for a minute. Drink a glass of water. Go for a short walk and get some fresh air.

You’re running around like a headless chicken.

Not sure if that is actually the correct way to say it, but it’s a saying in Dutch. So much on your plate, especially around the holidays. Am I right?

That’s why you deserve a break.

No, actually you need a break!
Here are a few drawings I made during breaks I took.

Before rushing off to my studio, right after breakfast, a 10-minute sketch:

When I took the whole (!) day off, which is kind of a unique thing. I am a bit of a workaholic, so I find it very hard to take a break for a full day. I did it and it was awesome. This is one of the drawings I did that day when I sat down for lunch:

After a meeting in the city and on my way heading back to the studio. I stopped at this place and ordered a wonderful cappuccino. The stacks of bread caught my eye so I had to draw them. Then I just kept going. It was such a treat:

Will YOU take a break today too?

Hi I'm Koosje. I'm an illustrator and art teacher in Amsterdam, where I was born and raised. I went to school to study graphic design, then worked for ten years as an award-winning professional photographer. But eventually my love of drawing and painting took over and I became an illustrator. My illustrations have been published in many Dutch magazines and in 2011, I began blogging and started developing and teaching online art classes. In 2014 I founded Sketchbook Skool, which is a flourishing community of artists from around the world of all skill levels.
