I love combining drinking and drawing. And let me clarify: I don’t necessarily mean alcoholic beverages. In fact, I like the occasional glass of wine with dinner, but my body doesn’t like alcohol much so I often stick to water or soda. But coffee! That’s a whole different story. The caffeine can fuel the body, but especially just taking the time to sip cappuccino fuels the brain. Taking a break with just me, a cup of good coffee and my sketchbook relaxes me, it gives me ideas, it calms me down and it energizes me.
Here’s just a collection of drawings done in cafés, restaurants and bars in my neighborhood.
The bar that’s very busy in the evening and weekends, but during day time, no one sits at the bar, and there’s a calm and relaxed vibe:

I don’t drink beer, but I do like hanging out with friends who do. This was at a brewery in Oslo:
Little Alexander (my brand new nephew) was drinking while I was drawing 🙂 And in Oslo, we stayed in a hotel with an amazing breakfast buffet. So yeah, I had to draw it.
Hi I'm Koosje. I'm an illustrator and art teacher in Amsterdam, where I was born and raised. I went to school to study graphic design, then worked for ten years as an award-winning professional photographer. But eventually my love of drawing and painting took over and I became an illustrator. My illustrations have been published in many Dutch magazines and in 2011, I began blogging and started developing and teaching online art classes. In 2014 I founded Sketchbook Skool, which is a flourishing community of artists from around the world of all skill levels. View all posts by Koosje Koene
