Salli Swindell is the owner of TheyDrawAndCook.com, together with her Brother Nate Padavick. I have submitted many recipes to this website over the years. When I first heard of the website – all about illustrated recipes, I was amazed to discover I wasn’t the only one obsessed with drawing food! Over 35 of my illustrated recipes now live on the website, and I’m still submitting more because drawing food and illustrating recipes is just so much fun! Salli and her brother Nate are very encouraging cheerleaders. They’re always so happy with each recipe that’s submitted and they’re growing the biggest online library of illustrated recipes from artists from around the globe. It’s really awesome.
And they are really awesome. They enthusiastically promote and support my online workshop on drawing food and illustrating recipes ‘Draw It Like It’s Hot’ . They even gave me the opportunity to create a cookbook of my illustrated recipes: ‘Food Ink.’ a couple of years ago. And ever since I posted my first few recipes, I’ve been dying to meet the both of them. I’ve been lucky enough to have dinner with Nate when he visited Amsterdam, and was so happy he accepted when I asked him to teach a kourse in Sketchbook Skool, called ‘Let’s Make a Map’.
Salli is specialized in greeting card design and that’s why we asked her to teach a kourse all about greeting cards. How to design them, how to make them. either to send to family and friends, or to print your own designs and sell them.
So this summer a dream came true: I got to visit Salli in her home in Ohio. She welcomed me and Morgan (who assisted me) to stay at her house, made us comfortable, cooked yummy vegetarian food for us, entertained us, and did an awesome job during the shoot of the many videos for her Kourse ‘Let’s Make Greeting Cards’
To catch a glimpse of how fun it was this summer, here’s a peek behind the scenes:

Hi I'm Koosje. I'm an illustrator and art teacher in Amsterdam, where I was born and raised. I went to school to study graphic design, then worked for ten years as an award-winning professional photographer. But eventually my love of drawing and painting took over and I became an illustrator. My illustrations have been published in many Dutch magazines and in 2011, I began blogging and started developing and teaching online art classes. In 2014 I founded Sketchbook Skool, which is a flourishing community of artists from around the world of all skill levels. View all posts by Koosje Koene
